Oh God Spring Breakers
Mar. 27th, 2021 01:19 pmI went out photowalking light night and it was a mess. I went out just as the bars were closing and there were tons of teens smoking and drinking on the sidewalks with cases of canned beer and hard seltzer. Just openly drinking on the sidewalks. There were wandering down side streets that are normally quiet. A group from Florida who shouted about being 'just off the plane' and were trying to party in a small east side neighborhood where everything was closed and streetlights were scarce.
Also, I had to be very careful crossing streets. A few times cars were charging down streets, blowing stop signs. I'm guessing rented sports cars? They are just trying really, really hard to party among closed bars and small bungalow houses?
I'm far from being a teen but it seemed pretty pathetic to me. Reminds me of early pandemic when lots of young Coronacationers were trying really, really hard to party on their cheap Portland trips. Around this time last year, I saw one group of kids walking down the center of Division among boarded up storefronts yelling 'woo' and repeatedly throwing devil horn hand signs and like ... that is the least metal thing I've ever seen in my life, yo.
According to google, peak spring break is over. But I am fairly sure they were mostly college kids. If it's not a spring break thing IDK what it is. The bars and the restaurant that once made this a popular spot are all permanently closed so IDK what they are going to do here. Smoke pot on sidewalks to not lose their AB&B deposits I guess? The tone of this hood is more sports bars, convenience stores and shooting memorials right now. I doubt this is what they flew across the country to see.
