To start with the bad, despite what their social media said as of two days ago, the Portland Mausoleum is NOT open to the public this weekend. They have a few small tours that booked out weeks ago and no one is allowed in unless they are on one of the tours. Some people had even called just a few days ago to confirm and been told it would be open. The news had covered that in a rare event, the secret room in the mausoleum you can only get into one day a year was going to be open all three days this year.
As much as I want to be righteously indignant about this, since I had transportation costs and despite my life being so busy and stressed I can constantly hear the music of the spheres, my wish to take photos is not important compared to that fact that most who show every year are mourners. It's a big deal with veterans and their families. This is messed up, yo. To make things even worse, they have this kid out front in a ragged hoodie and facial piercings to take the brunt of everything. He said he only started working there yesterday. There is no shot he's actually been hired on, he's a temp there to have a hellish weekend. That place is very formal, there is no way they actually hired him. I am pissed, but more are on behalf of people more messed over than me.
Anyway, I did snap a quick pic from the nearby little park:

This is what it looks like from the other side:

Well, maybe not right now judging by how much ivy there is. Arg, I really want to freshen up my mausoleum galleries, but idk when I can get in there again. They said it will open as usual next year, but, how to trust that when I checked with them just past Thursday?
If you are a new follower and don't know the 8 story mausoleum I adore here are a few pics. Tho, I can make a better gallery out of even what I have to date. I really need to update my photography website...
Anyway, since I was all the way down in Sellwood, I went to try to the dedicated soy free and dairy free brunch place:

Sweet potato and acorn flour waffles with house made granola, strawberry sauce, maple syrup and coconut based whipped cream, with a side of a single piece of fried chicken in a grain-free dredge infused with turmeric. I got a thigh piece, which is why it looks small. It was good! It was also a lot of food. I stayed for about an hour on the patio so I had room for the second half. I need to go back an try their other dishes. Their chicken soup sounds divine, but I had to get waffles for my first trip.
I also walked around, took some pictures, bought some spices from the little spice shop in Sellwood and shook my tiny, angry fists at the sky. I was going to do full manual Lensbaby shots and level up my mausoleum gallery.
